Happy New Year & Grapes to you!!

Happy New Year!

In just a few short hours, we will either quietly or with much celebration bring in the New Year, we will count down the seconds ring in a new year and go to bed (well at least I will) Actually hubby and I are going to dinner then we will be staying up to play Wii with the girls until midnight, quietly with the one's I love, and at the stroke of midnight I have to eat 12 grapes, I went to pick them up from my grandma's house and she had them all ready to go sorted into baggies for myself, hubby and the kids. This is actually a Spanish tradition that has been adopted by many hispanic cultures. The tradition consists in eating a grape with each bell strike at midnight of December 31. According to the tradition, that leads to a year of prosperity. Each grape is eaten with each beat of the bell. After the 12th strike everyone should have eaten all their 12 grapes, although this seldom happens due to its difficulty. (I hijacked this info from Wikipedia)because in all honesty I had no idea where it cam from I just knew that my grandmother had the grapes ready for us every year, oh yes and yellow underwear, no that's not a typo. Actually I didn't remember the yellow underwear until a few hours ago, despite the fact that it has been many years since I have received yellow undies from my grandmother, I still look back on the tradition with a smile. I did a little internet research and found this on the yellow underwear tradition:

In many Spanish-speaking countries, wearing yellow panties into the New Year will bring wealth and luck. Yellow is the color of choice because it is most closely associated with gold, Varon says.

Tradition says you must cast away your old underwear at the stroke of midnight on New Year's and put on a yellow pair. To be lucky, they must be new. Want some extra luck? Wear them inside out. How you get the underwear is believed to make a difference, too; receiving them as a gift is said to be best.

Winter Program!!

Ok so this morning I got up to buy tickets to my 9 year old daughter's winter program, oh my goodness, as many of you know we started at a new private school this year and apparently this thing is a BIG DEAL! Tickets started selling at 5:00 am well I arrived about 10 min to 5:00 and there was a line of about 30 - 35 people. Wow and these tickets aren't cheap by grade school standards ($26.00 each) I already told my daughter NO STAGE FRIGHT, SHE BETTER BE PERFORMING AT HER PEAK!! Just kidding well only a little bit ;-) So where have I been; hiding, busy, planning, preparing, plus all the mommy stuff, soccer, homework, appointments, etc. etc. etc and the list goes on and on and on.

I also had a great group of girls come out and join me this past weekend in San Diego for our weekend retreat and then my hubby left my camera in the room, luckily the Town and Country found it and shipped it back, unfortunately the guy who shipped my package transposed 2 numbers so last I tracked it it was on the way to Oceanside to zip 92057, not 92507 (mine). It looks like UPS is in the process of correcting this issue, thank goodness. I was heartbroken when I thought I had lost my camera, it wasn't the camera itself it was the pictures of my kids on Halloween that were still on my memory card. At least it is on its way to me (I hope). SO that is all, I have a lot of changes coming for my classes in 2010 that I think many of you will like.

So that is it for now, I am off to go clean something (Isn't there always something to clean when you have 3 kids and 2 dogs?)

I feel yucky, my head hurts my body aches and i have a painful dry cough. I hate being sick and what is worse I don't think my kids gave it to me this time, I picked it up somewhere and I am soooo hoping my kids don't get it. Being sick makes me sooo bitter grrrr.

LONG LONG DAY (and a really long post)

Today as been a long emotional day for me, I have been going back and forth for months on where my Madison (my 9year old) should attend school. She had been going to private school since kindergarten (she is now in fourth grade) until this past June. As the school year approached I knew she would not be returning to the school she had been attending but I still hadn't decided whether she would be attending a public or a new private school. Well we had a few weeks before the new private school started so I enrolled her in the local public school, she loved it. My daughter is a social butterfly who makes friends everywhere she goes so I knew she would be ok. Well by then end of her first day she had made friends and was happy, although I think her happiness has more to do with the fact that she didn't have to wear a uniform and could wear her own clothes. Well for the first time in a long while we didn't have to fight over getting up in the morning, getting her stuff together, and getting out the door. She looked forward to school, so with this new found enthusiasm I hoped the academic would also improve. Well after several weeks of waiting and watching I have decided to put her back in a private school. My daughter struggled last year with Reading, she was flipping letters, jumbling letters in words, the work was inconsistent, she seemed frustrated BUT she excelled at Math (accelerated math) each grade worked a year ahead. Last year we had her tested for Dyslexia by the school district and they found very little in fact they treated me like I was a whiny mother upset because my child was not an over achiever. They basically said she had a visual processing disorder, which the school psychologist couldn't really give me any info on it, well I did my own research and basically she appears to have a very mild form of dyslexia. Back to the math thing - well the other day she brought home a math test with a grade of 3 out of 14, this was a girl getting A's on 4th and 5th grade math last year and now she is getting F's in math that is below her grade level. This was the smoking gun for me, it made me realize that a. if my daughter is going to struggle then let her struggle at a higher level. b. it's not the school it's my daughter. I have also for some time thought my daughter was ADD and after more internet research I am becoming more and more convinced. I have over the last year spoken to many people on this issue friends, family, and acquaintances, learning that I am not the only person dealing with this kind of thing with their children. So why has this been so hard for me today well because It breaks my heart to have to change her from school and she is VERY upset about it. Not only that but I am scared and anxious, what if I am making the wrong decision. I don't think anything in the world make us second guess ourselves like parenting.
I hate to see her crying because she is sad to leave all her new friends, I feel like the worst mother in the world. I am not an overly sensitive parent I don't mind seeing my children cry especially when they are just being little boogers but feeling like an am inflicting sadness on them is a pain I cannot bear. Yup believe it or not I have a SUPER HUGE soft spot when it comes to all 3 of my kids, I can't bear to see a sad tear shed. I know I am not unique in this as parents we hate to see our children upset. So if I hadn't mentioned it already I have been crying all day about this issue with my daughter, well not really all day in emotional spurts. Ok so I am glad I was able to get this off my chest and down on paper. Sorry if it sounds choppy or run-on I wasn't too concerned with grammar. Have a good night.

Miley Concert!!

For my Madison's 9th birthday we took her to see Miley Cyrus, she didn't know until the day before and of course she was wayyy excited. It was a fun time we went with my friend Rochelle and her daughter Taylor, too much fun!! So here are some pics of the concert enjoy! I will post more later.

I just want to create!

I have been feeling a little stressed out lately, even though it is totally my own fault. I take FOREVERRRR to create something even something simple so then I focus on how long something is taking me rather than what I am doing. Not very creative of me! So anywhoo I am currently working on some fun Halloween projects, I hate dressing up, I don't like parties but I LOVEEE Halloween, I think it's the colors so I think I will spend the rest of the night creating. No Title

Hi everyone, yes yes I know it has been forever, although in my defense it feels like it has only been a few days. Time is going wayyyy to fast, I had a wonderful weekend at my San Diego Retreat Last weekend!!! Now it's on to finish November preparations, busy busy busy.

I am also working on upcoming class samples for the rest of the year, yup you read that right. I will be psoting some pics tonight and some tomorrow, that is what I am spending my day working on. I know for the most part what I want to use for my classes from now through December so I figure I will get them done sooner than later.

I have a class tomorrow in Monrovia at Scrap-n-yap, I haven't taught there in a few months so I am looking forward to it!!

Oh Yes hubby and I went to Disneyland last night, it was CROWDED but we still had a good time. So that is a brief recap, sorry nothing very exciting to report. Have a great day!!

E-mail overload

Hi everyone I have been getting behind on e-mails, so if you been trying to reach me over the last couple of weeks and have not heard from me it is due to the fact that I am still answering e-mails NOT that I am ignoring you. I would never do that unless you are mean and then maybe I might just a little (TOTALLY KIDDING). Anywhoo I just updated my class calendar, for the next few weeks and I am finishing invoicing for kits and retreats. Thanks for your patience.

This summer vacation has been rough, plus tie in the fact that I am an extremely slow scrapper and I have some problems lol. It took me about 20 hours (obviously not in a row) to complete the Acrylic summer album below.

After today I hope to be caught up at least for a few days.

I am probably one of the few if not only person who will say this, my son and I saw it together and he loved it. I LOVEEEE the books so I watch the movie with the book in mind, so that in itself makes it hard to really enjoy the movie for what it is because I am constantly comparing them. Computer crashing and Harry Potter comes out tomorrow!!

Yup I have a lovely virus on my computer so my computer guy is coming tomorrow, THANK GOODNESS. I have a ton of files that I don't currently have access to and let me just say I hope he can clean it up without losing info or I may have a stressful week ahead of me. Anywhoo I am actually excited about Harry Potter coming out tomorrow at midnight!!! My son Matthew is trying to convince me to go to the midnight showing, but I think I am going to pass I am almost certain I am going to be tired and who wants to pay a high priced ticket for a show you are probably going to fall asleep in, NOT I. I love the Harry Potter books and was so sad when I finished book 7. I had wanted to read book 6 before watching the movie but it didn't happen . . . Anywhoo have a great night!.

I couldn't get rid of the crib

I'm not sure what that really means, today when I was cleaning out the garage (read last post) I found it hard to part with my Abby's crib. You know how sometimes despite what you try tell yourself or convince yourself in your heart you know the reason . . . well I know the reason I am not ready to give up on growing my family. I don't dare share that sentiment with my family (Mom, aunts, uncles, etc.)they look at me like I have a horn growing out of my head so I will share it with you my one reader ;-). I don't want to have any more of my own, well that's not entirely true it would be nice to have another child of our own BUT I really want to adopt. I think for our family 3 children of our own is adequate but this whole thing is not that simple, I am not quite done babying my Abigail (she will be 3 in August). I won't get into the many reasons I don't think we are ready I just think we need a little more time. Who knows when the time will be right it may never be, what I do know is that I couldn't get rid of the crib. So I leave you with lyrics that seem to fit:

I'm beat!

Hi there!

So I spent the morning cleaning out the garage, it needed to be done, luckily the kids are on vacation so they did most of the heavy lifting. WE HAVE SOOO MUCH STUFF!! All I was really able to do today was organize it so that I can go through the boxes one at a time (YAY ME!) So I am off to design for my upcoming classes and the San Diego Retreat in August.

I haven' t really been trying

What does that even mean?? Well to the few people that may stumble onto my blog probably nothing this is more of note to myself than it is of any value to you (my one reader ;-).

So there you have it a piece of weird randomness coming out of my brain an onto my computer, this is almost as odd as my statement this past weekend to Lucy & April (they took my class at the Scrapbook Garden) about not liking the position of the sun in the afternoons. I don't know why but something about angle of the sun and the shadows it produces int he afternoon really bugs me. Ok so for those of you who think I am totally crazy = you are probably right. Right Angle Rut

Yup I am in a right angle rut, I get so stuck sometimes when I am creating. I finished my pages for my upcoming 10 pages in 3 hours class at Collective Journey and then decided I didn't like them and started over. I can't help it sometimes I get sick of looking at the same layouts, my mind tends to be drawn towards the same design over and over and over again. Oh well all I need is a little inspiration and I will be back on track. . . .

It's funny that I post this because, I don't always think I am nice, I think I can be quite serious, grouchy, and moody...Yes I am all of these things but I am kind, I hate to see people hurt and I hate to see people in pain, no matter how my views may differ from that of another person I will always choose humanity over idealism. So anywhoo while blog hopping I cam across this awesome site Operation nice , I love it because it strives to promote all that is good, the big and little things. I have been needing this for awhile, I like hearing about people being good to other people. We live in a world of reality show overload and tabloid trash, I do find it quite disturbing (I know that this is a guilty pleasure to many of my friends, don't worry i still love you and I won't hold it against you). It seems every time you turn on the TV some new brand of reality TV nonsense has sprung up. (BREATHING 10, 9 , 8 , 7 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) Ok sorry I was getting a bit worked up there. New Class at Ever After in Vista!

I am so excited I will be teaching at Ever After in Vista, YAY!! I am totally looking forward to doing my 10 pages in 3 hours class down South. My first class will on June 13th at 2:00 pm I will be doing a round of 10 pages in 3 hours and these are some of my all time scrap faves. OMG - This commercial had me in tears

What a great feel good commercial - this is the kind of stuff that should be on TV, it makes me want to go get State Farm for insurance (Obviously the objective of the company and their marketing people) keep in mind I said almost but still a beautiful commercial.

Feeling good!

Yes I got a good night's sleep last night so now I feel much better, I don't feel like I need to sigh one bit! My baby will be 13 tomorrow, WOW I can remember what I was doing 13 years ago. I was getting home from doing some shopping and just relaxing on my bed, at around 5:00 pm my water broke and off to the hospital I went, my Matthew wasn't born until 9:38 PM on May 23rd, 1996. It's amazing how time flies sometimes in the day to day stuff you know like the "did you clean your room", "did you finish your homework", "did you do this and that and any of the other million things we have to be on our children about. I sometimes tend to forget how lucky I am to have such a wonderful son like my Matthew and how he has changed my world (as all my children have) in ways I never expected. Sighhhh (The good kind).

Love

I have had... well a day let's just put it that way. Love has been on my mind today good love, bad love, painful love, happy love all kinds of love. Love is HARD, i mean real love at least for me it is. It's easy to love when when your up, it's easy to love kind people, it's easy to love beautiful things, of course love encompasses all of these things but love also encompasses not so lovely things it is so much harder to have love and have compassion for things we don't understand for people who don't show their love as we want them to. Loving these individuals is the true test of love and compassion and understanding. I know it sounds like I am rambling you are probably thinking why is she rambling on about love, well the answer is I'm not sure I just had this on my mind. I am having a lovey dovey kind of day. Amazing Movie

I just finished watching the most amazing movie The Courageous Heart Of Irena Sendler, this story is about a Polish Catholic social worker that saves over 2500 Jewish children during WWII. Let me tell you I spend the last 2 hours crying, this young woman had courage to do the right thing amid the atrocities committed by the Nazi's. I try to avoid watching movies like this not because I am indifferent but because it's painful to watch, it hurts to see what people throughout history have had to endure. It makes the meaningless drivel that I complain about seem completely obsolete and ridiculous. On this note if you are looking for a good read you should check out Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl, he was a Holocaust survivor who lost his entire family during the war. At times I need these kinds of reminders, the kind that make you stop and look at what is truly important. Have a good night.

I think I am going to need Copics

I am not the type of scrapper who everytime a new product comes out I am the first one waiting in line to buy it. Nope I am the wait and see kind of girl, I like to see the full spectrum of what the products can do. I have to see something and "Say, Hey I want to try that!" Well up until now I have not been that excited about the Copic markers, yes they are beautiful and I hear worth every penny BUT until today I have seen not seen them used on many layouts, it APPEARED to me to be a card thing, I'm not into making cards maily because I'm not good at it. Anywhoo I saw this tutuorial posted by Suzy Plantamure on the CK Blog, check it out here. So cool so now I am thinking I need some Copics. I better start saving my pennies I should be able to buy "1" in a few months lol. Enjoy the tutorial!!

I'm SICK!!!

I'm sick and I can't be sick!! This is so very frustrating but what can you expect after you children have sneezed, coughed, and yes puked (is that spelled right?) on you. Ahhh the joys of motherhood, I was lucky enough to side step the germs for several weeks, but alas they caught up with me. Earlier today I thought I would take some Tylenol DAYTIME cold medicine to help me get some work done, well it was silly of me to assume that the DAYTIME cold meds would be in the DAYTIME box, yes very silly indeed. So after I swallowed I realized i took NIGHTIME cold meds and laid into my son about putting things were they belong blah blah blah, I tried to go back to work, fast forward to an hour later . . . zzzz ZZZZ zzzz ZZZZ. Yup I crashed HARD, oh well I probably needed the rest anyhow. So not as productive as I would have liked, Thank goodness the kids all go back to school on Monday YAY!!

TUTU Cute

I finally scrapped the pictures of this adorable Tutu, i just love bright colors and decided that the New Bo Bunny Love Shack Paper was perfect for this Layout. Like my flowers? These are my cheap Dollar Tree finds, I still have a ton left over from last year LOL. I went a little crazy buying Dollar Tree Flowers, I have gotten rid of most the only ones I have left are the ones I still think are pretty. I forgot to add the date, I will do that in a bit! So thanks for looking I am off to go design for my upcoming classes!

New Toy!!

YAYYYYY It came today my SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) Software, I had been hesitant to purchase this but so glad I did. I have been playing with the computer program ( I haven't cut anything yet) I need to purchase the USB Cord. Seems easy enough to use the real test will e when I cut out some of my favorite detailed fonts. So far my thoughts on the SCAL is that it's another great tool for scrapbooking, I love using fonts and this is going to open up a ton of fun possibilites. Will it stop me from buying cartridges? Not likely. I like the ease of using my Cricut anywhere even the Expressions, it's size doesn't keep me from taking it to crops or classes. I will post a sample later tonight. Have a good day!

NO INTERNET

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, that's how I felt about not having internet for a few days. My modem died on Tuesday the little bugger just stopped working, luckily AT & T send a new one out rather quickly. So after a few adjustments I am back on the internet, (sigh) how i missed it sooooo much. In all honesty it was a good thing, I spent time doing things that I should normally be doing but don't because I am on the computer. So I am off to surf the net, have a good night!

100th Post - WOW

I didn't realize I ever had that much to say lol. Well this is exciting, sorry nothing special to say except that I am glad I have been getting back into blogging, so here is to the next 100th post!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY. Anywhoo today after I posted about my favorite layouts, I started to get inspired so i pulled out pictures of my little monkey Abby, and decided to scrap them. Now keep in mind I have a bad habit of being way to matchy matchy but I decided to take pictures that I would have never normally used for these paper and make it work. Well I loved the way this layout came out, it was just what I needed. I love it! By the way when I say I love my own work I am not saying "WOW Jess you are such an amazing scrapper", I am actually just so in love with something I created, totally absent of vanity. Now that I have cleared that up lol here is my LO.! TTFN


My Favorite Layouts!!

I haven't done any truly personal scrapbooking in a long time, sometimes when I need to be inspired I go check out my favorite layouts and the ones below are a few of my recent (well not so recent, it's been about a year) favorites. I love them because they are so me and I love them because I love them even if nobody else loves them, does that even make sense? I just love looking at these layouts, they are so seemingly chaotic, but aren't really. It's organized chaos - the story of my life. Don't these layouts look like my scrapbook room exploded and some random stuff landed on these pages lol. I love it!! LUV THIS TUTU!!

This weekend I had the pleasure of hanging out with some good friends and making new ones at the Scrapbook Royalty Royal Slumber Crop. There was soooo much going on, despite that I still found time to stalk one of the silent auctions . . . I bid on a darling TUTU for my 2 year old Abby, I would have purchased one for my Madison, but they didn't have any in her size so maybe next time. Scrapbooking Updates!

This Friday I will be heading out to San Marcos for the Royal Slumber Crop, sponsored by Scrapbook Royalty. I can't wait for this fun filled 2-day event, I am sponsoring a table on behalf of The Memory Studio, not only will it be a great time it is also for a great cause! Now you are probably thinking what is the Memory Studio? It is a project I have been working on for over a year now I have been wanting to start a project kit company so once I started teaching locally I decided it was the right time. The Memory Studio website has been under construction for some time and I am in the process of ironing out all the kinks and we are almost there. Hi everyone!!

I have been busy getting ready for my San Diego Retreat, I am SOOOO excited, it is less than 2 weeks away and we have some fun stuff planned for our attendees!! I have also been getting class samples ready I have a pretty full calendar for March and April. Plus I have been invited to be a Guest Teacher at Scrap & Yap in Monrovia, I am totally excited about that!!!! FABULOUS WEEKEND!!

This past weekend had all of the makings of a great one, Friday & Saturday I joined an awesome group of girls to celebrate our friends Rochelle's & Robin's birthdays at the San Diego Scrap Inn (Great place, these ladies have done an amazing job on this house, definitely a place to check out for a comfy and cozy weekend retreat!). I had such an awesome time laughing, eating, scrapping, and even some Karaoke, I had to sing Mamma Mia I am actually in shock that I did it! As if a couple of fun days with the girls was not awesome enough I spent Sunday at Disneyland with my family, we had such a great time all 3 of my kids behaved pretty well, no excessive whining, crying, pushing or shoving everyone got to ride what they wanted . . . I felt blessed several times this weekend, I felt blessed that I have such and awesome husband that is willing to hold down the fort while I scrap with the girls. I felt blessed to be spending some fun time with my children, riding rides, laughing, and just enjoying each other's company. I actually stoped at a couple of points just to look at my kids and husband and smile because I am sooo thankful for them all no matter what I say whey they make me mad (wink).

Join Scrapbook Royalty March 14th-15th 2009 in San Marcos, California for the Royal Slumber Crop!! They will be hosting their annual crop to benefit the Cancer Coping Center and the San Marcos Boys and Girls Club.

The Cancer Coping Center, constitutes a group of professionals who volunteer their time and expertise in order to relieve the suffering of those afflicted with cancer by providing coping strategies for cancer patients, their family members and caregivers.

The San Marcos Boys and Girls Club is a non-profit, youth development organization. Their goal is to provide every child with the essential tools needed for a successful and bright future.

You won't want to miss this amazing two day event. And YES, it is now TWO DAYS of cropping and fun!!! This event includes breakfast both days, lunch, tea time, awesome classes and so much more, check out the site for all the royal details.
